This site is dedicated to the memory of Sandra Hutcheon.

This page is set up in memory of my beautiful, fun, loving mum. My mum was a nurse for years, always looking after others and putting herself last. She was the life and soul of the party, always full of mischief and fun, would make you laugh when feeling down. My Mum had to watch her eldest son Stephen battle through Viral Meningitis at the age of 4. He battled through this and thankfully was perfectly fine! My mum aged 53 suffered from a Subarachnoid Brain Haemorrhage on Christmas day 2001, shortly afterwards she contracted Meningitis. This left her being paralysed from the neck down and unable to speak or communicate, making her completely trapped in her own body. I was expecting my eldest son Josh when she became ill, she was so excited about being able to show her grandchild off and take him on holidays, days to the park and even just give him a cuddle after he was born. However this wasn't to be as she was still in the hospital when he was born. My mum always showed signs of understanding what was being said to her when she laughed appropriately and was sad when necessary. This we held onto for 11 years, my dad and I looking after her at home, my dad is a true gentleman, he did everything for my mum, even painting her nails and putting on her make-up. She watched her grandson grow up, not being able to tell him that she loved him, or hold his hand, but the love in her eyes said it all. Another grandson kai was brought into the world 5 yrs later, on 24th march 2008 she was to be told that he also had Meningitis at the age of 7 months. Somehow the strength and prayers got through and her little soldier came through with no long lasting affects. For this we are so greatly appreciative everyday. I think she took it all for her family. On her 63rd birthday (12th April 2012) she passed away. she was free after all those years. We miss her so much, but telling her grandsons how much she loved them and all the stories about what granny and mum did is spoken about daily. We will never forget her and will always remind my kids of how much they meant to her. I hope that doing this page and raising funds for Meningitis Now will make her proud of us, just as we are of her! Shine bright like a diamond mum, love you xxx
